Canoe Paddle in Redwood Creek

Join us for a leisurely family paddle in our fleet of canoes guided by our expert naturalist instructors. No experience necessary, and we provide all of the necessary equipment. We will explore the local flora and fauna of Bair Island, a rare example of an undevelopped wetland ecosystem. A recent paddle offered a bonanza of bird sightings - over 16 species in two hours!! 5yrs or older.

 

$10 for members, $20 for non-members

Discovery Ecovoyage's

Climb aboard our floating classroom for an exploration of the San Francisco Bay like no other! Our 90' Research Vessel the Robert G. Brownleeand promises you will remember this trip for a lifetime!

 

After an introduction to this magical estuary, you can help us set a net to sample what fish are swimming through the waters below. We'll help you identify and even touch the fish we see... will we catch a shark, bat ray or any of over one hundred other surprising fish we've seen?? Then we pull up a bottom sample and see what all that mud has hidden inside. Last but not least, we'll peer into the world of plankton, the engine that drives the whole ecosystem!

 

Must be at least 5 years old to attend, and ALL children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Closed-toe shoes required.

 

 

 

This event is $40 per adult , $25 per child (ages 5-12)

Marsh & Beach Exploration

Come jois us as we explore the secrets of the sandy beach habitat, then move inland through the marshland and learn about birds and plant life specially adapted to this environment. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy in our favorite climbing tree!

Abalone Succulent Workshop with EcoMonster

Join EcoMonster for a summer succulent workshop to make your very own mini garden to take home. Beautiful succulent cuttings provided by Licorice Landscapes.
All supplies and materials will be provided: 
-Abalone shells, recycled cups, mugs and other containers 
-a HUGE variety of succulent cuttings and soil 
-lots of fun trinkets to select from for your mini themed garden
You will take home one finished arrangement in an abalone shell at the end of the workshop.

Shark Day

MSI loves sharks! Our special Shark Day invites one and all to learn about these amazing creatures, from the Great Whites that swim just off our ocean shores, to the gentle Leopard Sharks that are common in our Bay.We will be feeding and touching our local Leopard Sharks in our teaching aquarium, and viewing information about the vital role of these top predators around our world's oceans.

Coastal Clean-Up Day  

 

Saturday, September 20              9am~12pm

 

Every year MSI spearheads cleanup sites in Half Moon Bay, and with the aid of over one hundred amazing volunteers lasy year picked up seriously gross amounts of garbage.

     MSI will provide gloves and bags for collecting waste and recycling. HOWEVER, a theme the state is encouraging this year in an effort to lessen the environmental footprint of the day is to bring your own clean-up supplies (pails, light garden gloves, etc.), if you have them.

Low Tide Walk

Saturday, October 25     Time: 4:30pm~6:30pm

 

MSI takes to the tidepools for a treasure hunt of nature's beautiful intertidal secrets. We'll spend our time taking advantage of the low tide to reach the outer edges of Pillar Point, while taking in spectacular vantages as we slowly retreat to shore. Will we find crabs, sea stars, eels an octopus!? This is a great all-ages, family event. Space tends to fill up for these events quickly, so please RSVP soon.

MSI Event Cancellation and refund policy: For a full refund, we ask our guests to cancel their registrations with a minimum of one weeks notice. This allows for families on waiting lists to register and adequately plan their calendars. Please note our events still take place rain or shine including our Discovery Voyages unless deemed a safety issue by the ship's Captain. Should MSI cancel an event for any reason you will be notified via the contact information provided through registration and be issued a full refund.
