Marilou S. Seiff: Executive Director Marilou@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 11
Marilou has a B.S. from Stanford University and a M.S. from the University of the Pacific. She has worked at MSI since 1996 teaching Shoreside programs, Discovery Voyage programs, and Marine Camp programs during the summer. Marilou was previously the Program Manager for MSI. She now is leading MSI into its next phase, by launching a capital campaign to raise money for our new permanent building. Marilou is currently a member of the Stanford School of Business Alumni Consulting Team Board of Trustees.

 

Natasha Stogner: Outreach Marketing Coordinator Natasha@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 12

Natasha earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies from San Jose State University. She is in her first year with MSI. Natasha is responsible for marketing and promoting the school outreach programs. In addition, she is responsible for marketing the EcoTours. Natasha's son Christian and daughter Chloe attended MSI school programs and summer camps and loved them!

 

Julie Xelowski-Brooker: Program Director Julie@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 13
Julie has a B.A. in Education from Prescott College in Tucson, Arizona. She comes to MSI from the Sonoran Sea Aquarium in Tucson Arizona where she was the Director of Education. Julie has spent the last 10 years developing programs and teaching marine science in the desert. She has an extensive back ground in marine science and environmental education. Julie manages the education programs and is responsible for marketing at the Institute.

 

Janeen Tuitupou: Development Director Janeen@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 14
Janeen has an M.A. in Curriculum and Teacher Education from Stanford School of Education and a B.A. in English from Santa Clara University. She first worked at MSI as Director of Grants beginning in 2007, and after a year away, recently returned to MSI as Development Director. In addition to MSI, Janeen has held development positions at RAFT, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, and JobTrain. Since 1989, Janeen has been involved in the grantmaking side of philanthropy in the Bay Area as a director of a family foundation. As Development Director, Janeen is responsible for management and oversight of all fundraising activities at MSI, and performs all tasks related to fundraising through grants.

 

Heather Kantor, CFO

Heather Kantor has been on MSI’s Board of Trustees since 2007. Heather is the CFO at Wings Learning Center and is the President of the Parents Club at Clifford School in Redwood City. Heather began her career as a park naturalist and environmental educator and received a Masters degree in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University. After becoming interested in the business side of running non-profits, Heather returned to school and received her MBA from Simmons School of Management in Boston followed by 15 years in corporate finance. She earned her CPA while working at Coopers & Lybrand and spent 12 years at Gap Inc., culminating in the role of VP of Supply Chain Finance where she managed $6 billion of supply chain and logistics spend. She also started the WOW Science program at Clifford School in Redwood City which partners with both MSI and the Lawrence Hall of Science to deliver intensive K-5 hands-on science education. Heather's son Jacob is 7 and is an enthusiastic participant in MSI school programs and summer camps.

 

Karen Peluso: Ship Program Manager Karen@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 15
Karen earned her B.S. in Biology from Murray State University in Kentucky. She began her career at MSI as an Instructor in January 2003 and has also worked as an educator for Save the Bay. Karen coordinates all aspects of the ship-based programs including the hiring, training and scheduling of staff.

 

Douglas Zaebst: Land Program Manager Douglas@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 17
Douglas received his B.S. in Marine Biology from Ohio Univeristy. He started with MSI in 2006, teaching Land Based Programs and Ship Programs. He has worked teaching Marine Biology in Florida, Rhode Island, and throughout California, both in the classroom and as an outdoor, environmental educator. As Land Program Coordinator, Douglas organizes all Shoreside, Tidepool and Outreach programs, as well as birthday parties and special events.

 

Gail Broderick: Scheduling Coordinator Gail@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 10
Gail has a B.A. in Natural Science from San Jose State University, as well as a multiple-subject with supplemental science teaching credential. She started working for MSI in 2000. Gail works with teachers and educators to schedule all of our land and ship programs, supports the Marine Camp program, and works on various other special projects at the Institute.

 

Aaron Tinker: Membership and Volunteer Coordinator Aaron@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 16
Aaron has a B.Sc. in Biology from McGill University in Montreal and a Masters in Marine Affairs from the University of Washington. He joined MSI in July of 2006 and has an extensive background in marine conservation and education. Aaron manages the Institute's membership program including scheduling events and communicating with members. In addition, he recruits, trains and manages our wonderful volunteers.

 

Candace Louie: Data Technician & Analyst Candace@sfbaymsi.org
Candace holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from San Francisco State University and is currently pursuing a graduate degree iin Urban and Regional Planning at San Jose State University. She got her start at MSI as a summer intern in 2007 and helped erase MSI's many years of backlogged bay fish population data. Current projects range in support of development, scheduling, outreach, membership, and summer marine camp.

 

Connie Sinksen: Bookkeeper Connie@sfbaymsi.org, 650-364-2760 ext. 20
Connie has over 30 years of bookkeeping experience. She's had her own independent bookkeeping practice for over five years, with nine clients, several of which are non-profits. Connie started working at MSI in June 2003, and is responsible for quarterly financial statements and board reports, and day-to-day financial transactions.

 

Captains 650-455-8113 Ship Cell
MSI currently employs two Captains, Jackson Gentry and Erik Larson, for the R/V Robert G. Brownlee. Both are U.S. Coast Guard licensed for ships of 100 tons and greater. The Captains are responsible for the operation of the Voyage and the overall safety of the ship and onboard program activities.

 

Science Instructors and Marine Educators
MSI currently maintains a pool of twenty part-time Instructors and Educators. While all Science Instructors have a B.S. or B.A. in science, they have diverse backgrounds in subjects such as ichthyology, geology, zoology, and environmental science. All Instructors are trained in the basic deck-hand tasks and handling of the onboard education equipment (nets, benthic grabs, water samplers, etc.) Additionally, our Instructors and Educators are well-equipped to work with students of diverse backgrounds and all are certified in Community CPR and First Aid.

 

Support Staff
The staff are supported by a pool of incredible interns and volunteers. Everyone is dedicated to the Institute's involvement in our youth, science education, data collection,  and the teaching of environmental education.
