Birthday Parties
The Marine Science Institute is pleased to offer the following Birthday Party Programs that are available Monday through Saturday throughout the year.
General Information:
* The child celebrating his/her birthday gets an MSI T-Shirt.
* Members receive a 10% discount on the price of the Birthday Party program.
* Two staff members will be on site to greet you and lead the birthday party program.
* Rustic indoor and outdoor space is available to set up the birthday cake, presents, games and other birthday activities. All activities outside of the specified program are the sole responsibility of the booking party.
*MSI asks that all visitors pack out any trash that is brought to our facilities.
Adult assistance is needed for any program to help focus the children on the program.
The following programs are available:
Shoreside Birthday Party
The Shoreside Program is an exciting opportunity for participants to get down and dirty while exploring the San Francisco Bay. The program takes place on the Marine Science Institute's beach and dock and in our classroom. Birthday Party participants will use real oceanographic equipment while working as scientists to discover the types of creatures that live in the Bay. Specifically, children will take a "mud grab" and find invertebrates that live at the bottom of the Bay and will also use a large beach net or "seine" to collect fish for examination. This program is appropriate for children ages 5 and older and can accommodate up to 30 participants. The total length of the program is 2 hours. The cost of the program is $400.
Rocky Shores Birthday Party
The Rocky shores Birthday Party is a fun opportunity for participants to gain a hands-on look at animals that live in the tidepools. The program takes place in the Marine Science Institute's classroom, lab and science center. Party participants will spend an exciting time learning about the many different organisms that inhabit the tidepools, including sea stars and crabs, and why these organisms are special! The total length of the program is 1 hour. This program is appropriate for children ages 5 and older an can accommodate up to 20 participants. The cost of the program is $280.
Fish & Sharks Birthday Party
The Fish & Sharks Birthday Party is an exciting opportunity for participants to get a close look at the fish and sharks that inhabit the San Francisco Bay. The program takes place in the Marine Science Institute's lab and classroom. Birthday party participants will spend an hour learning about what it means to be a fish or a shark, and will get a chance to see and touch these wonderful creatures! The total length of this program is 1 hour*. This program is appropriate for children ages 5 and older and can accommodate up to 20 participants. The cost of the program is $280.
*An opportunity to use our beach seine to collect fish for use in the program may be added to this birthday party. This will cost an additional $60, and will add 30 minutes to the total party time.
