The Marine Science Institute offers the following volunteer positions.

 

Marine Camp Volunteer

     Do you love marine science? Working with children? Playing games? Doing arts and crafts? Taking photos? Become a summer camp volunteer!
     MSI Summer Marine Camp is a week-long day camp offered for nine weeks during the summer. Volunteers are critical to help camp run smoothly. They assist instructors and counselors, and are an important support for camper. Marine camp is a fun and exciting opportunity for volunteers to enjoy learning and teaching marine science. They get to participate in all of the camp activities and field trips, while being a friend and role model for campers. We are also looking for photography volunteers! These positions require a commitment of 8-9 hours a day for a week during the summer.
     We are now accepting letters of interest for our 2013 Summer Marine Camp volunteers - applications will be reviewed beginning March 18th!!

Aquarium Assistant

     Assist our Aquarist in carrying out the basic daily operations of the aquarium. This is a great opportunity to gain animal husbandry experience, become familiarized with local marine animals, learn how to monitor brackish and salt water quality, and help keep all of our animals healthy. Must be 16 years of age or older. After an initial training, volunteers are asked to commit to a 3 hour shift once a week, for 12 weeks. Fish Data Collection Internship: Research

     Collect fish aboard our 90-foot research vessel, the Brownlee. Identify, count and measure San Francisco Bay fish in a fun, educational environment. Data collected becomes part of an important 40-year-old database tracking fluctuations in fish populations in South San Francisco Bay. This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in gaining valuable scientific data-collection experience. Must be 16 years of age or older. After a brief training, volunteer can sign up to join on any voyage being undertaken with our Discovery Voyage education programs (which during the school year typically happens twice a day, Monday through Saturday).
